The Design of our McGill Tartan

The McGill tartan was a distinguished addition to our family tartan series, embodying the rich heritage and enduring spirit of the McGill name. Its colours are drawn from the McGill crest, symbolising the family’s legacy and deep-rooted traditions – and the green, orange and gold are a vibrant and rich combination. All of our tartan is woven locally with 100% British wool, and can be ordered by the metre or half metre. We can also create a bespoke McGill tartan product for you. Choose from a wide range which includes kilts, shawls, ties, cosmetic bags and more. They will be handmade in our workshop in the South of Scotland.

The Story behind our McGill Tartan

David McGill, eminent Tartan Designer, designed over 120 tartans over three decades. After designing a range of national and district tartans, David set about researching Family Crests and Coats of Arms to give the Scottish and Irish Diaspora at home and around the world a tartan that reflected their unique history and heritage. Given he was a McGill himself – he put his heart and soul into this particular tartan. This tartan serves as a vibrant tribute to the McGill lineage, connecting generations past and present. Woven with pride, it is available to all who bear the McGill name or its many variations, uniting McGill descendants across the world in a shared celebration of ancestry and identity.
